We (Charly & Eriel Santagado) are lifelong creative partners and the founders of mignolo dance (2017). Our work is interdisciplinary, situated at the intersection of movement, language, and sound.
Central to our practice is “translation”: a method of rearticulating works from other artistic forms through the body. By moving between literal and interpretive registers, we expose resonances across disciplines and open dance to alternative points of entry.
Our work often approaches physical theater. Through the body as both instrument and site, we engage questions of identity, mental health, relationships, and collectivity. We are drawn to tension—between absurdity and gravity, humor and vulnerability—using disruption to unsettle expectations and deepen attention.
Our work invites audiences out of passive viewing and into embodied participation. Through immersive, boundary-blurring forms, we position our practice alongside modes of resistance that unsettle prescribed roles and open space for new ways of being together.
We have created four full-length works and more than ten shorter pieces, presented across Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the United States.
